British Functional Fitness Federation

British Functional Fitness Federation (BF3) is the UK’s National Governing Body (NGB) for Functional Fitness.

BF3 is not-for-profit and it was established in 2016. BF3 is formerly known as FRF UK (Fitness Racing Federation UK), which is still legally our trading name. We are actively seeking recognition for the sport of functional fitness in the UK with Sport England. We provide governance and we regulate the sport in the UK, representing and protecting the interests of all stakeholders in the competitive functional fitness community.

BF3 is an active member of iF3 (International Functional Fitness Federation). The iF3 is the sole World Governing Body for the sport of Functional Fitness. The iF3 is actively seeking membership from Sport Accord to enable recognition by the IOC (International Olympic Committee).

The iF3 is an active member of The Association For International Sport For All (TAFISA), which is an IOC recognized organisation, and is in conversations with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) about the application process for becoming a signatory to the World Anti-Doping Code.

Our Mission

Our vision is to create a sustainable sport for the benefit of the community, in support of the government’s broader policy objective of getting more people active and healthy.

We seek to make the sport more professional, providing a commercially viable structure for athletes, coaches and support staff, gym owners, and business owners.

Our mission is to achieve recognition by the Sports Councils of the Home Nations that competitive functional fitness is a sport, and to seek public funding for the implementation of our Whole Sport Plan.

We are also supporting the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) in its pursuit to be a part of the Olympic programme in Brisbane 2032.

Ste chats with Harry from BF3 as the first National Trials come to a close. The future looks bright, and we’re thrilled to be sponsoring Team GB for the next four years! This marks an exciting chapter for functional fitness in the UK.

BF3, the British Functional Fitness Federation, is the UK’s National Governing Body for the sport. Their mission is to create a sustainable, professional framework for athletes, coaches, and gym owners, while seeking official recognition from Sport England to secure public funding. They also support the iF3’s goal of getting functional fitness into the Olympic Games by 2032. Want to help? Sign up today and strengthen our case to Sport England!
