HOW IT WORKS?

The event will run in a 1 month period across July and August 2024 with all athletes completing 3 tests in 1 hour timeframe. The aim of the Medley Hour is to start the selection process for the British Functional Fitness individuals to go to the iF3 World Championships in late 2024.

The Medley Hour will consist of 3 tests to be performed in a specific order in a one-hour time frame. The tests will comprise of the following tests:

  • Strength
  • Skill
  • Endurance

All functional fitness gyms can run the test as part of their programming and introduce members to the BF3 who may not be aware of the organisation and our aims. The test is designed to be completed in 1 hour, including warm up and transition times and should be able to be fitted into the class structure of most functional fitness gyms.

The hour will be segmented as follows:

FAQ

Which Home Countries does BF3 represent?

BF3 is a national governing body covering United Kingdom: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

Do I have to be a BF3 paid member to take part?

No, you don’t have to be a BF3 paid member to take part in the competition. By participating in the competition you are agreeing to become our mission supporter, which will help us in our efforts for functional fitness to become recognised by Sport England as sport in the UK. We highly encourage all participants to become paid members to gain voting rights and help shape the future of BF3 not-for-profit and for community organisation.

Do I have to be a British citizen to participate?

All British residents are welcome to participate in the online qualifiers. However, only British citizens are eligible to advance to National Trials, and consequently have a chance to represent the UK at the iF3 Super Worlds.

Do I have to do the workout at a BF3 affiliated gym?

No, you can do the workout at any location so long you record a video in line with our video submission criteria. Note that the video needs to be taken with a timestamp to allow us to verify that you’ve completed all 3 workouts within the Power Hour 1 hour domain. We have partnered with WODProof who timestamp all of their videos, hence we strongly suggest that athletes record their videos with WODProof and upload to YouTube for verification.

If you’re performing the workouts in a group as part of the gym’s programming you will need to submit your coache’s/judge’s name, email address and gym name for her/him to validate your score. Note that top athletes, in order to advance, all must submit their video for all workouts.

Can I change my score once entered?

Yes you can change your score and attempt the complete Medley Hour as many times as you wish until the deadline at 2359hrs on 7th August 2024 (BST). Note that you cannot repeat a single workout – the entire Medley Hour must be repeated and all new scores and videos entered with the timestamp for submission to be valid.

How can I record Medley Hour if I’m attempting the workouts by myself?

We have partnered with WODProof to ensure that athletes have an easy way to record their workouts. WODProof automatically timestamp all workouts. Please note you must record all 3 workouts separately. Each workout will be time stamped and we will be verifying if you adhered to the prescribed time domain of 1 hour for all 3 workouts.

[EDIT 16 July] Note: WODProof timestamp the video as soon as you press your chosen event, rather than when the workout video recording starts. To avoid disappointment you may also want to use time.is website to show the date and time at the start or end of each of your videos (you will need to have a second device to do that). Alternatively you can also use WeTime who timestamp the videos, however their verification requires our judges to check each video encrypted code manually via their website, which will lengthen the time for us to verify all workouts.

How many athletes will advance to National Trials?

  • Top 8* athletes in the Open Division
  • Top 5* athletes in the 19-20 division, and the seven divisions in the 30 – 65+ Masters age groups
  • Top 3* athletes in the remaining four Youth Division age groups

*eligible athletes

What are age category cut off dates?

Age group athletes must be of certain age on 31st December 2024. For example, for 13 – 14 age group, the athlete has to be not younger than 13 years old, and no older than 14 years old on 31st Dec 2024. This means the athletes in that age group were born between 1st Jan  2010 – 31st Dec 2011.
