The BF3 National Championships 2025

The BF3 National Championships 2025 online qualifier is an event for all athletes wishing to participate in the official British Functional Fitness 2025 season, leading as a pathway to the iF3 Euro’s and World Championships.

The top athletes from each group category will have a chance to qualify for the live BF3 National Championships that will take place at Forge Functional Fitness, Sheffield on:

  • Juniors – 22nd – 23rd March 2025
  • Masters – 19th – 20th April 2025
  • Individual Open and 19-20 Junior – 19th – 20th Jul 2025
  • Team (FFMM) – 12th October 2025

Top athletes from the BF3 National Championships 2024 online qualifier and all of the live events will take part in the selection process for a chance to be a part of Team UK and represent our country at:

  • iF3 Masters and Juniors European Championship in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands: 13-15 June 2025
  • iF3 European Championship in Stockholm, Sweden: 12-14 September 2025 (Individual, Junior 19-20) – Hypermedley Format
  • iF3 World Championships in Lithuania: November 2025 (Individual, Junior, Team)
  • iF3 Masters World Championships in Melbourne, Australia: December 2025 (Masters)

    QUALIFIERS

    BF3 National Championships 2024 Online Qualifier comprises of the following test that were released on 13th Jan and due by 28th Feb 2025:
    • Test 1: Strength
    • Test 2: Mixed Modal
    • Test 3: Endurance
    • Test 4: Skill & Bodyweight 

      The tests include 5 out of the 6 tests typically carried out as an Olympic format for iF3 (more about test categories here):

      1. Endurance
      2. Strength
      3. Skill
      4. Bodyweight
      5. Power
      6. Mixed

      All functional fitness gyms can run the test as part of their programming and introduce members to the British Functional Fitness Federation (BF3) who may not be aware of the organisation and our aims. All tests will be designed to be completed either independently by athletes or as part of the usual 1 hour class. BF3 will be providing an hour class programming including warm up, workouts, and cool down, to allow coaches and affiliate owners to easily fit it into the class structure.

      DIVISIONS

      There are 32 divisions divided by age group and gender:

      • Juniors: age under 12, ages 13 – 14, 15 – 16, 17 – 18, 19 – 20
      • Open: Individual
      • Masters: ages 30 – 34, 35 – 39, 40 – 44, 45 – 49, 50 – 54, 55 – 59, 60 – 64, 65+
      • Team: FFMM (2 female, 2 male) across each Home Nation: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

      How much it costs?

      BF3 National Championships – Online Qualifier 2025 costs £20pp + platform fee, which includes BF3 membership. BF3 membership is crucial step to help us achieve our goals of becoming a recognised sport in the UK. Members become a voting members of our not-for-profit organisation and show Sport England the support for our mission,.       HOW DO I SIGN UP?

      Registration takes place on Circle21.app:

      • Individual Sign up
      • Team Sign up (it’s free of charge, but you also must register as an individual too*

      *Why? Two reasons. One is to allow some team members to also try as individuals. Second reason is to allow us to introduce British Functional Fitness Ranking. Circle21.app will be building a feature this year to allow athletes to perform n more than one division (i.e. open category and masters, team and individual) 

      FAQ

      What is the prize money?

      The total prize money is £11,000 for Individual & Teams division. We are hoping we can generate sufficient sign ups to allow us to also offer prize money to all age group divisions.

      Individuals:

      • Individual 1st – £2,000
      • Individual 2nd – £1,000
      • Individual 3rd – £500

      Total – £7,000*

      Teams

      • England – £1,000
      • Scotland – £1,000
      • Wales – £1,000
      • Northern Ireland – £1,000

      Total – £4,000*

      *to be eligible for the prize money for Individual & Teams – you’re committing to representing the UK at the iF3 Worlds in Lithuania in Nov 2025.

      Which Home Countries does BF3 represent?

      BF3 is a national governing body covering United Kingdom: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

      Do I have to be a British citizen to participate?

      Yes, you need to have British citizenship and be able to provide evidence (i.e. birth certificate, naturalisation document, or British passport) when requested. For more information for Team – Home County representation rules please read this article.

      Do I have to do the workout at a BF3 affiliated gym?

      No, you can do the workout at any location. 

      If you’re performing the workouts in a group as part of the gym’s programming you will need to submit your coach’s/judge’s name, email address and gym name for her/him to validate your score. Note that top athletes, in order to advance to BF3 National Championships, all must submit their video for all workouts.

      Can I change my score once entered?

      Yes you can change your score and attempt the workouts as many times as you wish until the deadline(s).

      How can I record my workouts if I’m attempting the workouts by myself?

      We have partnered with WODProof to ensure that athletes have an easy way to record their workouts. Other available methods would be WeTime or recording a video with a timer in the background throughout the video.

      How many athletes will advance to BF3 National Championships?

      • Top 32 in the Open Division
      • Top 8 athletes in the Juniors Division (in each age group)
      • Top 8 athletes in Masters Division age groups 30 – 34, 35 – 39, 40 – 44, 45 – 49
      • Top 4 athletes in Masters Division 50 – 54, 55 – 59, 60 – 64 and 65+
      • Top 20 Teams (England: 8, Scotland: 6, Wales: 3, Northern Ireland: 3, plus 4 best teams from any Home Nation)

      What are age category cut off dates?

      Age group athletes must be of certain age on 31st December 2025. For example, for 13 – 14 age group, the athlete has to be not younger than 13 years old, and no older than 14 years old on 31st Dec 2025. 

      COACHES CLASS PLAN
